Review and Discuss Updates to Chapter 56: Property Maintenance

BACKGROUND:
On January 5, 2021, the City Council supported Mayor Dye’s formation of the Code Enforcement Task Force (CETF) for the purposes of reviewing and providing feedback on the City’s existing property maintenance regulations as well as offering recommendations for code updates.
On May 4, 2021, Code Enforcement Manager Leo Bonanno presented the CETF’s recommendations to the Council. A majority of Council Members supported the recommendations made by the Task Force and supported proceeding with appropriate updates.
On June 1, 2021, Code Enforcement Manager Leo Bonanno presented a summary and examples of the updates to be made to various property maintenance codes. Recommendations included those from both the CETF and City Staff.
DISCUSSION:
A summary of updates proposed for Chapter 56 has been provided to the Council in a presentation format displaying current language and the proposed changes.
City Staff will not be formally presenting at this meeting, but Code Enforcement Manager Leo Bonanno will be available to answer questions and collect feedback from the Council so as to prepare a final draft of the updated Chapter 56 for Council approval in August 2021.
