BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department has researched several opportunities to assist in funding for the Oran Good Playground renovation. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation grant has been determined to be the best fit for the project. The grant is allocated for the development or renovation of public recreation areas and facilities throughout the State of Texas. The Program provides 50% matching grants, with a maximum award of $750,000, on a reimbursement basis to eligible applicants. If awarded, the City’s matching contribution will be paid through funds recently received via the American Rescue Plan.
DISCUSSION:
The TPWD Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation grant provides funding to local governments and non-profit organizations for development or renovation of parks and playgrounds. All grant assisted sites must be dedicated as parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public.
The Parks and Recreation Department would like to apply for the TPWD Local Parks Non-Urban Outdoor Recreation grant to assist in funding for the playground renovation at Oran Good Park.

City Administration recommends conducting a public hearing and approving Resolution 2021-119 for the submission of a grant application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for funding of Oran Good Park Playground.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to close the Public Hearing approve Resolution 2021-123.
2. I move to close the Public Hearing approve Resolution 2021-123, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
