Consider appointment of the Chairperson of the Sustainability Committee; and take appropriate action

BACKGROUND:
At the April 6, 2021 City Council meeting, City Council approved Resolution 2021-042 which re-established the Sustainability Committee. The Resolution also tasked Council with appointing a Chairperson for the first year of the committee. The Committee will select the Vice Chairperson and Secretary. Going forward the Committee will select the Chairperson on an annual basis.
DISCUSSION:
The Committee met for the first time on August 11, 2021 and at that meeting two members expressed interest in becoming the Chairperson for year 1. The two members of the Sustainability Committee that wish to be Chairperson are Joseph Riegel and Soren Thomsen. Joseph Riegel’s initial term ends in 2024, whereas Soren Thomsen’s initial term ends in 2023.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends appointing one of the nominated members of the Committee to fill the Chairperson role.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to appoint (NAME) as the Chairperson of the Sustainability Committee.
2. I move to take no action and seek additional nominations for the position.
