Consider approving Resolution No. 2021-145 adopting the Texas Term Sheet and its intrastate allocation schedule regarding the Global Opioid Settlement in the amount of $94,532; and take appropriate action

BACKGROUND:
The City of Farmers Branch obtained information from the Texas Attorney General indicating that certain drug companies and corporate affiliates, parents, subsidiaries, and such other defendants have engaged in fraudulent and/or reckless marketing and/or distribution of opioids that have led to addictions and overdoses which have resulted in financial costs to cities. Funds received by the City in the settlement may be used for FDA-approved drugs to reverse opioid overdoses, prevention and education programs within the community and first responder training related to coming in contact with opioids in the course of their duties, to name a few.
This allocation method for opioid settlement proceeds is known as the Opioid Abatement Fund for Council and it, as well as the Settlement Allocation Term Sheet, are attached.

RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends approving Resolution No. 2021-145 adopting the Texas Term Sheet and its intrastate allocation schedule regarding the Global Opioid Settlement.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve Resolution No. 2021-145, as presented.
2. I move to approve Resolution No. 2021-145, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
