Recognition of Farmers Branch Fire Department Truck 131, Medic 131, NTECC dispatcher/support services specialist, Kristian Smith, and Walgreen’s pharmacist, Jonathan Ugege, for their actions in saving the life of a cardiac arrest victim on April 09, 2022.

BACKGROUND:

On April 9, 2022 at 10:20a.m., Farmers Branch Fire Department Truck 131 and Medic 131 were dispatched to an unconscious person at 13260 Josey Ln. in Farmers Branch. FBFD T131/M131 found a male patient lying on the ground with a Walgreen’s Pharmacist- Jonathan Ugege performing CPR. FBFD crew members took over CPR. The patient was defibrillated, and other ALS procedures performed. The patient was transported to Dallas Medical Center, where FBFD crews assisted DMC staff with ongoing resuscitation. The patient regained a pulse shortly after arrival at DMC. The patient was stabilized and transferred to Baylor Heart Medical Center where a stent was placed, and the patient continued their recovery in the ICU.

This is a testament to the importance of pre-arrival instructions of CPR by NTECC dispatchers with bystander CPR performed and medical direction from BEST EMS.

At tonight’s Council Meeting, Dallas Medical Center will recognize Farmers Branch Fire Department Truck 131 - Captain Jim Dennis, Driver Anthony Casillas, FF/Paramedic Travis Shelton, Medic 131 - FF/Paramedic Colby Sliva, FF/Paramedic Brett Schonfeld, NTECC dispatcher/support services specialist, Kristian Smith, and Walgreen’s pharmacist, Jonathan Ugege, for their life-saving care.
