Consider acceptance of a donation of 12 HomeBoxes from the Knox Company to the Farmers Branch Fire Department.

BACKGROUND:
Knox Company is donating 12 HomeBoxes to the Farmers Branch Fire Department to be loaned to citizens in the community who are most at risk of requiring medical care, such as seniors living alone. The Fire Department can use their existing Knox box key to quickly and safely access the key to the residence. This eliminates property damage to the door and home, reduces the risk of injury to first responders, and allows for quicker access to the sick or injured person. The HomeBox program is sustainable, as boxes will be provided free to residents and can later be used on someone else’s home who is in need.
DISCUSSION:
Provision of the boxes to citizens will be based on need. Consideration will be given to those that live alone and are elderly or mobility impaired.
RECOMMENDATION:
City Administration recommends the acceptance of the donation of 12 HomeBoxes from the Knox Company to the Farmers Branch Fire Department.
POSSIBLE COUNCIL ACTION:
1. I move to approve the acceptance of the donation of 12 HomeBoxes from the Knox Company to the Farmers Branch Fire Department.
2. I move to approve the acceptance of the donation of 12 HomeBoxes from the Knox Company to the Farmers Branch Fire Department, with modifications.
3. I move to table the issue for further study or take no action.
